December 2024 Employee of the Month - Khalil Pleas
Khalil has been working for SIUE Campus Recreation as a fitness attendant since Spring of this year, 2024. In May of 2025, Khalil will graduate with his Bachelor’s in Exercise Science and Nutrition. He is also a part of both the Exercise Science Club and the Rotaract Club. Khalil aspires to one day get a Doctorate of Physical Therapy.
If you get the pleasure of speaking to Khalil, possibly on one of his amazing tours around the facility, he will show you his passion and enthusiasm for what he enjoys. Topics such as working out, reading, and video games are a few of his favorites, as well as being activities he partakes in during his free time.
The things Khalil delights in the most about working at Campus Recreation is getting to interact with a diverse group of students and coworkers every day. Khalil is constantly coming in early, staying late, or covering shifts for his coworkers when they are in need. He is such a reliable person whom his supervisors and coworkers can always count on. During his shifts, he is constantly looking out for patrons’ safety and helping them with any equipment questions or needs. One time when Khalil was conversing with one of our assistant directors, Dave Hagedorn, he noticed a patron struggling on a bench press about to go sideways, he was able to help catch the bar in time. This shows how much of a model employee Khalil is; always ensuring he is paying attention and doing his job when on shift. He is also always helping his supervisors with nets and any other activities where items need to be set up or taken down.
Thank you, Khalil, for being such an amazing person and employee!
