George Henderson, Professor Emeritus of Physics, Passes Away
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville mourns the passing of George Henderson, PhD, professor emeritus of physics, who died peacefully on Monday, Feb. 10. He dedicated more than 31 years of service to SIUE.
Henderson was born on August 22, 1940, in Charleston, W.Va., Henderson joined SIUE in 1970 and taught a wide range of physics courses, helping to develop general studies classes in astronomy and musical acoustics. He was a dedicated member of the SIUE Physics Department for many years, serving on numerous departmental and university committees. He contributed significantly to the campus community through his involvement with the Religious Center, now the Center for Spirituality and Sustainability (CSS).
A passionate supporter of the arts, Henderson sang with the SIUE Community Chorus and was an enthusiastic advocate for the Arts & Issues program, alongside his wife, Pat. The couple enjoyed traveling with the Chorus.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, at the Center for Spirituality and Sustainability.
