Campus Support
Cougar Cupboard
- The Cougar Cupboard is a non-profit food pantry located at SIUE, in the lower level of the Morris University Center, serving students, faculty, and staff members. The Cougar Cupboard's food, clothing, and toiletry items are supported entirely through donations.
- Students can visit the Cougar Cupboard without an appointment, during open hours.
Emergency Funds
The SIUE Student Emergency Assistance fund is available to provide one-time financial assistance to enrolled, degree-seeking students who are unable to meet immediate, essential expenses because of a temporary hardship related to an emergency, such as an accident, illness, natural disaster, recent job loss, or other unforeseen circumstances. The funding does not have to be repaid. Please visit the website for eligibility details.
Student Parents
If you are an SIUE student with a child/children, there are several resources to consider:
- Housing
- Cougar Village offers apartments with multiple bedrooms and an onsite childcare facility (Family Resource Center).
- Childcare
- There is an option to find supplemental child care coverage if you are a student enrolled in a minimum of one credit hour and have a child in a child care facility on campus or within the local community.
- Local School and Childcare Resources
- The Early Child Care Center (ECC) is located on SIUE’s campus and provides full-day, year round early childhood care and education for the children of students, faculty, staff, and others in the community.
Responding to a Student Death
The death of a student can be emotionally difficult and stressful for students, faculty, and staff. Recognizing the shock and profound sadness the student’s family and friends will be experiencing, this protocol is designed to ensure a professional and caring response by the University. In an effort to provide a compassionate and coordinated response on behalf of the University, the Office of the Dean of Students (deanofstudents@siue.edu) should be notified immediately.
Pregnant and Parenting
It is the goal of SIUE to support pregnant mothers and families to help mitigate any disruption to their educational and career goals while preserving the essential elements of the academic program/position. If you are pregnant, recovering from childbirth or have a condition related to pregnancy, you have the right to ask for a reasonable accommodation. Learn more about thel Pregnancy and Newly Parenting Policy.
Campus Climate Concerns
At SIUE we strive to ensure our campus climate is one that supports all constituents' ability to engage in campus activity without concern for their psychological or physical safety. Our institution is committed to a culture of belonging where all community members feel valued and have the opportunity to make valuable contributions to the campus.

Accessible Campus Community and Equitable Student Support (ACCESS)
ACCESS is dedicated to providing reasonable curricular and co-curricular accommodations to diverse learners with major life impairments at SIUE. Each year, ACCESS assists hundreds of students with a variety of diagnoses as they pursue their academic disciplines. ACCESS also provides resources which students can use to increase skills in learning, time management, and test-taking. Both accommodations and resources are offered to students who have provided appropriate documentation and are approved through the application process.
Equal Opportunity, Access, and Title IX Coordination (EOA)
EOA oversees the University’s response to all reports and complaints of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and sexual misconduct as well as the enforcement of University policies addressing these topics. The EOA Office also addresses reports of campus climate concerns and bias incidents.
Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
FERPA is the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. It protects students’ rights with respect to their educational records. If you follow the included link, you can find detailed information about these specific rights, related consent, and disclosure processes.
